since yesterday was yesterday and things happened like they did, I have to tell Rún's story now. And no, she wouldn't do it herself, she doesn't like talking about herself. especially to a broader audience, many of who she might not even know.

Well Rún Thjòfr is my eldest. The fact that she is the first makes her hold a very special place in my heart. She is the quietest of my adorable bunch and usually very calm and composed. but do not be fooled, that girl has a ferocious streak in her and she doesn't like to be told what to do. Not anymore. She fought so hard to stand on and for her own and she deserves it. that girl has 'Been there, done that'.
Rún was the dream come true. a tiny little person who knew nothing about the world and looked up to me, her creator and sometimes shadow puppeteer, to show her the way. I could form her image any way I saw fit and so I formed an image I liked and inked the girl as customary in Norn tradition. Her rights of passage and battle. she had to learn everything, about the land she lives in, how to live in it, how to fight in it, how to die gracefully. because as she was so small and untried she failed a number of times before she succeeded.
if you look in her face you see her determination, and you see a tiny drop of sadness in her eyes. her story growing up and still, living, is not easy. she made mistakes as young ones do, but then she was left by even me for a while while i pursued other goals and played with other toons. She has got a little sister named Zuki who has never had to fear for her life or needed to feel alone. since the moment she saw the world her best friend was at her side and protected her and helped her along.
Rún occasionally met Gwan, whom she would call her best friend. he also is the eldest in the family and had to fight his way through difficulties but on so many occasions too, he was much wiser then her, knew better how to fight and survive in the harsh and sometimes cruel world of Tyria.
so this girl grew up doubting her own abilities, so often in the beginning her sense of orientation, and with the feeling that she did not know what was going on. but she did it all anyway. she explored many corners of Tyria and often forgot to revisit her home land, she fought in dungeons, scared shitless, fearing for her life and baring everything, her ineptitudes, her abilities and her body. things she was never scared for were her worth in the world and the knowledge that she could beat whatever the hell waited next.

she was often forgotten along the way but she was the first to grow up, one never to see a number over someone's head walking by in pink and telling her she wasn't there yet. she made it and she survived. but then she was told off by people she barely knew, Rún thought she was able to survive so many things but she was told to ask someone for help.
she had felt like she could be helpful herself.
but my brave Rún held her head up high, smiled, and said she would look into it. and she was so determined. in that moment she decided to show them she could do it, to hell with what everybody thought and said. so she is a woman, she is beautiful. she is strong, she is stubborn and determined. you'll see. so she is a thief. she was told she's squishy, needs more damage, has damage, needs more stability, breaks apart, is difficult, impractical, hard to play and whatever else. if you put your head and heart into it you can do it. she did it! lies the challenge not in the fact that thieves are different than other professions?
my girl has grown into a beautiful woman who holds back now, assesses a situation and can handle herself pretty well in a scuffle. her hard head and will let her to explore parts of Tyria like a thunderstorm rolling through, turning heads, swooshing by and leaving you clueless. she fought in every region as well as in Orr, Rún fought and won against the corrupted elder dragon Zhaitan, she blasted his fugly ass out of the sky. She has tried herself against foes in PvP, and visited every castle and point while she fought in the Battle of the MIsts and proved her worth there. she has earned herself a pair of wings. she has grown with every step.
she will never forget her friends and companions along the way. she first met Gwan in Ascalon and was so glad he helped her through some rough patches, she was always happy to see him again and tell him about her adventures; or take him with her. like his first adventure in a dungeon, in the Citadel of Flame where she made a stupid mistake and died while she wanted to help her team- and guild mates and he didn't and got compliments for being so good. and she liked dragging him into a bigger community, which took some talking, always mentioning them and sneaking him in, but she thought it would be good for him. Rún explored Queensdale with Iás and though she didn't get to know him very well she felt a connection to him and proudly defended him when he seemed in over his head. Rún loves to poke little Aro, or tiny as she calls him, because she likes him very much but is also a tiny bit jealous of her sister's great friend. she is sometimes unsure if she should joke around with other people like her siblings do. it seems it comes so natural to them, being so cute and enjoyable and endearingly, adorably strange and funny. she doesn't feel able to do that. she worked so hard on proving she is good she can't let loose in fear nobody takes her serious any more. not Pera though. Pera is the one person she feels looks up to her, although she is like a foreign being sometimes. Pera lives so freely and enjoys everything she does, it baffles Rún and she isn't quite sure what to do with that. but she enjoys her company very much. only her close friends can make her live life and make her take her mask off and participate in Costume Brawls, Food Fights, kinda flirting with Mad Kings and playing around, dancing for an hour and enjoying it with every molecule of her being, trying to infect other people. though i noticed my darling gets more relaxed when feeling accomplished and/ or being tired. She almost seems like a simple Norn then. now she has even more new friends, hasn't even met them all, some of her siblings did though, and told her about them. though Rún has crossed paths with a young tree that stared at her a lot and seemed very distraught as they went their separate ways. she will have to find and meet her again. many of the ones she calls friends seem to be trees though, and many are green and carry the wildest sets of red leaves you can imagine.

on the note of looks: Rún had explored the vast majority of the known lands of late and has insisted on wearing something more appropriate in attire , to her status as a grown up and tested one but also because she started to hate what she had to wear for practical reasons. even though her clothes were a present from someone she barely knew at the moment, he gave her a whole outfit set and it had her at a loss for words. she hadn't encountered such kindness and selflessness before.. well maybe when she found the little guild community she is a member of, or dare I say, someone found us, all of them and made us feel welcome.. (and one of them is her jumping puzzle buddy. Rún always likes a challenge and what better than to struggle your way to a chest.) but we spend so much money and made her pretty and looking worthy, some days she feels all it accomplished was making her get compliments for her décolleté. on the one hand it makes her feel beautiful but on the other hand she feels like now no one cares about what she can do at all.
there is so much to tell, so many memories and beautiful and hard moments she has already lived through. I have told so much and feel like I barely had a chance to tell who Rún Thjòfr really is. The thing I am saying in so many words and pleadings and explanations is: She didn't give up. she was sad for a while because she could not reach her goal. not by her own determination and skills. not at that point. but last night there was the opportunity to do it. like she did so far she did it mostly on her own but she could not have gotten this far without her friends and their support and nice words and laughter and them taking her out of herself sometimes.
my girl has never been this giddy, and especially not in public. she screamed and yelled in two chats and happily jumped up and down. she forgot to take a picture, but she will remember the feeling in her heart, always. it was such a big thing for her and yet she felt whomever she wanted to tell did not feel the same. Gwan helped her with this last step and she feels he was sad he was not there himself yet. she didn't tell him about her plan, didn't include him but she had to prove it to herself. she had to make it. and if he needs her, she will do everything in her power to help him reach his goals too.

[it looked almost like this except not serene, in a cave and with skritt attacking]
I am so proud to say that my little girl, from not knowing anything about the world and how to play and navigate it in any way, may it be technical, in style, behavior, concerning goals, personal or social issues or anything else, has reached a point at which she can tell so many people off, just by them looking at her, with a star beside her name (which she hasn't seen yet herself), because by now she has done a lot of it. she is in no way perfect, but she can survive a lot, pull out a few tricks and with her wits about her surprise you.
she is a thief. she has secrets, she sneaks around and steals from you the moment you don't look. she sneaks up on you like a shadow in the corner of your eye. she can also burst you down and make your head spin with her acrobatics and trickery and moving like the wind. if you think she goes down she might either kill you right away or disappear into the shadows to do it when you expect her gone and yourself save. look out, this is my damn wonderful girl!

first of all: congratulations! you did it, you really did it!! :DDD sevil jumps sevil cheers
second: rún is amazing! just wait till i tell laikasz, she's gonna be so starstruck^^
so she and gwan are friends, i didn't know that. they make a beautiful pair, i'm sure (gosh, the eye candy! :D), but how does it work in a fight? is rún tanking and gwan doing staff magic from afar? or are you both middle range fighters?
she always looks so distinguished in everything she does; if i hadn't seen pictures i wouldn't believe that she's dancing and partying like that. and it was she who found the guild, too. sometimes, i forget that. in my characters mind, she's like the aunt who lives far away and only visits occasionally. but whenever there's family meeting, there's always an anecdote about aunty rún's adventures, and everyone secretly wishes to be her.
when you meet her in person, you become very shy all of a sudden, cause you heard so much about her. it takes time to get to know her better, i think, and as of yet, my family didn't really have the chance. but they would like to, very much^^ (well, laikasz probably get tongue-tied a lot, and threasach will treat her like he would a comrade in arms cause he doesn't know better, and bran would probably flirt shamelessly, but trying to be classy about it, and merry would just be bouncing around a lot. ephy, i don't know. she probably would be grumpy at first, she's stubborn that way, doesn't want to do what everyone else does. but secretly, she'd be delighted, i just know^^
so yeah, tell her she's always welcome with my family, and we all would like to know her better, if she likes to hang out with the toons sometimes. oh, and tell her that this is like sneaking on the dachboden of your parents house and finding a diary under a floorboard, and reading until the morning light creeps through the windows.
in other words, i love it! :D thank you so much for sharing, dear *hugs a lot*
oh, and: YOU DID IT!! *bounces around*

but I will try to do better. remind me ^^
and yes, my dear Rún is so much and sometimes she feels untouchable but rest assured a lot of it is a front and fear of getting hurt (I should know). she usually feels like she needs to proof herself and tries her hardest. just ask her out and run with her, for friends she'll thaw and show you some other sides to her ^^.
*claps too*

I find it deeply fascinating how characters can become, like, a facette of yourself. Some more so than others, but in my very limited experience (with one game I created characters for so far), especially first characters tend to get a lot of input from their creator. I'm not saying Rún is totally like you (I wouldn't know, really); all I'm saying is that Ephy is not just a representation of how I see myself in many things, but a better version of how I see myself, with all the suffering and anxiety and the messy day-to-day business cut out.

The character that surprised me most was probably Fenja, since I'm not usually so passionately and distinctive female like she is. Fitz is a close second though. He taught me how crude I really want to be sometimes, and I love him for it.
What character surprised you most?

okay.. this became more than a comment so I made a post of it. here you go
